Story Graphic

Ahhhhh simplicity!

I like symbols myself, doodling and such, its fun. Most art really doesn't look that good without detail. But that's the beauty of design, you can make something and it is usually good to keep it simple and without too much detail. I think it ties in very strongly with Gestalt theory, as well as Semiotics.

It's a beautiful thing :)

Gestalt... that funny German word

I herd about the Gestalt theory a while ago, it is pretty important to think about. Gestalt theory is about how the human mind makes connections when you don't always tell it too. It's just in our nature and the way we think to do it. Optical illusions fall directly under this category, giving little information but giving a lot all at once. I especially like the law of closure, the mind can finish a form without it being a complete form. It's some cool stuff. Little fun fact, Gestalt means "shape" or "figure," I read it on Wikipedia. I thought that was cool.

Schedule

This semester I am in Intro to Graphic Design (obviously), Intro to printing process, and painting I, College Algebra, Comp II, and Marching Band. I have some frosh Gen Eds as you can see, I'm behind on those.

I will be in some classes next semester, problem is I am still handling what transferred as what here, so I really don't know just yet were I'm at just yet. But hopefully that will be cleared up soon.

Wish me luck

Brushes, ink, and such...

Your brush is very important, it's needed to get a really good fine line. I knew some students who swore by foam brushes for drawing with ink, but I have never found a love for it personally. It is important to get good ink to, if it wont flow right, it wont draw right. This seemed to be the main focus of talking about materials. Then there were pens. I have always liked sharpie and micron myself, but at the same time pen is just fun to draw with in general. Brush pens are very nice, but they always let out to much ink to fast for me. Either way the talk about materials in class today was pretty informative learning were to find what and how to look for quality.

Semiotics

When you look at something, you most of the time associate it with something else, even if not everyone does. That's pretty cool. I didn't know the study of these meanings was called Semiotics. Good to know though. It's interesting to think about that idea, the fact that you can say something without really saying it. This is a very important factor to take into account in art, especially if you don't want to upset anyone with an advertisement. When you have to think on every possible way it could be read denotations and connotations become very important. I believe that this is the message to think about in the lecture.

Hey...

I'm not much of a writer, just to tell everyone that might be reading this out there in internet land. My name is Tyler in case you haven't seen yet. I like to make art and play music, there are other things to learn about me but that pretty much covers my basics. I graduated high school in 2008 from Savannah High School. That's Savannah, MO not GA. This is my second year in college but my first year here. Last year I went to Kansas City Art Institute in KC, MO. I loved it there, but private school isn't for me, so here I am. This year should prove to be fun, there are so many people, its weird, but I like it. :)

Anyway, Leave me a comment or something. Be nice like I said I suck at writing...

Thanks
